This story dedicated to: Nadja Lee. Thanks for always being there for me

It was a cold and stormy evening when a dark figure crusted down beneath a fresh grave. The painful look in his eyes made the angels cry in despair. He had just returned from a well-done mission in Afghanistan, and had expected to be greeted with open arms by his one and only love; Rogue. He would never have gone on the mission in the first place if it weren’t because he owned a debt to some old soldier buddies from Nam. They had saved his life by forcing a helicopter to go back over enemy territory to get him. He had often saved their life, in the line of duty too. But with friends; who are counting, right? Once a soldier, always a soldier, I guess.

He felt something running down his check. It must be a raindrop, he thought, ‘cause men don’t cry.

He had been a soldier all his life. He knew of nothing else. Or that is not until he met her. He had never had much to smile about in his harsh life, but she could make him smile as wide as Santa just by walking into the room.

He felt something running down his check. It must be a raindrop, he thought, cause men don’t cry.

Even though he had known great sorry and pain in his life, he had never felt such terror as the day Magneto almost killed Rogue. That day he had promised her to protect her forever and always keep her safe. He had fought bravely against the terrorist in Afghanistan and his superior wanted to give him a big shinny medal for helping keeping the world safe, or something like that. But what did it matter that the world was safe when the one person he loved more than life itself was not. A medal cannot warm a frozen heart; only the touch of your lover can do that.

He felt something running down his check. It must be a raindrop, he thought, cause men don’t cry.

When he had returned home with a smile on his face and a big bucket of Rogue’s favourite flowers, (not to mention the beautiful heart shaped diamontring in his pocket) he had found that Magneto and his men had attack the Mansion. The other X-men had fought bravely, but it wasn’t enough. Magneto had found Rogue and drained her for life. He knew that Scott was right when he said that they had to stop Magneto, but he just didn’t have the strength. ‘Cause what is the point of living and fighting when there is nothing left to fight for?

He felt something running down his check. It must be a raindrop, he thought, cause men don’t cry.

Before he had left her just one month before he had kissed her beautiful gloved hand and promised her that nothing would keep them apart, nothing. Not even death. And this was a promise he intended to keep. He hadn’t even noticed that the wind was getting older or that the rain changed to snow.

So there the X-men found him the next morning hugging the tombstone of his lover with a single tear frozen to his check.

The End
