Author’s Note: This was my first feeble attempt on a Evolution fan fic. I wasn’t sure about finishing the series. Lost interest and I thought it was turning out to much like a cheezy Romance novel.
Rouge sat in the dark, she knew that it was really okay. But something in the back of her mind was flashing too many warnings. Mystique had been gone for a while, she hasn’t been seen since that whole Astro M thing. Hell, it’s been about two years since then. Rogue was just about to get outta High school and on with her life.
" Hey! You still in there?" A familiar voice asked.
Rogue could see the outline of the ole fuzzy one on her balcony.
" No I ran away," Rogue joked.
Her attitude with him has gotten better over time. He was her brother after all. He came in and sat down next to her against the wall. Rogue could tell by darkness that he didn’t have his inducer turned on.
" I thought you’d be out somewhere with Kitty," Rogue said.
" Kitty’s out shopping with Jean again. You think I wanna be a bag carrier again?" he asked.
" Good point," Rogue said.
" So what’s your reason for sulking in your room?" Kurt asked.
" Just didn’t feel like seein’ anybody right now. I feel like a 5th wheel again," Rouge said.
" Oh come on! You aren’t da 5th wheel. ‘Sides you’re gonna be Kitty’s Maid of Honor," Kurt said.
Rogue blinked, " What?"
" Yeah, I know it’s like 6 months away. But she’s told me she wants you to be the Maid of Honor," Kurt said.
" Now I know she’s hit her head too hard on something," Rouge said.
Kurt got up and offered a hand to help her up. Rogue took it and sighed.
" Now get your tail in gear and come with me," Kurt said.
Rogue crossed her arms in front of her chest. Kurt glanced back at her and used his tail to grab an arm and drag her out with him. She didn’t protest much until she nearly ran Scott over. Kurt let go of her.
" Sorry Scott," Rogue said. " I thought you were with the Professor.."
" Change of plans," Scott said adjusting his shades. " Have you seen Jean?"
Rogue’s face hardened a little bit.
" She’s at the Mall with Kitty. Didn’t she tell you?" She asked.
" Oh, I totally forgot about that," Scott said.
Rogue rolled her eyes as she walked past him. Kurt raised an eyebrow.
" What?" Scott asked looking at him.
" You’re just wonderin’ if Jean was out with Duncan weren’t ya?" Kurt asked.
" Gimme a break," Scott said walking away.
Kurt eyed Rogue over at the window. She was glaring out at something. He walked over to her. Rogue’s hair was now to her waist. She had it braided loosely with a black ribbon tied at the end. Rouge’s attitude has changed in the last few months, with the help of the fuzzy elf.
" And I suppose you’re gonna tell me how rude it is to roll my eyes?" She asked.
" Nah," Kurt said looking out the window. " I’m just wondering what you’re finding so annoying out here."
Rogue smirked, " Depends on what you find annoying."
" Ah I know where this is heading," Kurt said. " Scott’s been bitten by the jealously bug."
" He has been since Jean’s been brushin’ him off for Duncan," Rogue said.
" But haven’t you noticed he isn’t so worried anymore about it?" Kurt asked.
" You’re beating a dead horse," Rogue said.
" I am not. I’ve spent sometime getting to know you Rogue. I know how your mind ticks," Kurt said. " You still like him till this day right?"
" Kurt give me a break. You know just as well what would happen in that situation. So don’t even let the brain wave finish," Rogue said suddenly sounding tired.
" Now I know Jean’s invited Duncan and Scott to dinner over at some posh restaurant," Kurt said.
Rogue glared out the window, wishing it would suddenly rain. So stupid ole Duncan could get his convertible all nice and soggy on the inside. She watched Jean run out of Scott’s car and take a running leap into the arms of that man. Rogue wished Jean never even heard of Duncan. She wouldn’t be in this bad situation now, a few years later.
" So you’re thinkin’ Scott will invite me to come along?" Rogue asked.
" He’d be a stupid fool if he didn’t," Kurt said.
Rogue looked behind her and noticed Scott starting to walk towards them.
" See ya sis!" Kurt said in a puff of smoke.
" Ya damn Elf!" Rogue cursed kicking the smoke cloud.
Rogue turned her attention back to the outside. Scott seemed to follow her lead and glare outside. Rogue could almost see his eyes from the side.
" Times like this I’d be glad to just see it rain buckets," Scott mumbled loudly.
Suddenly Kitty came running in. She skids to a stop at the two.
" Good brakes," Scott said.
" Man I wish she’d just shut up about that meat head," Kitty sneered.
Duncan sped off as Jean jumped in.
" Kurt told you about that dinner didn’t he?" Scott asked..
" Yeah. Poor you," Rogue said.
" What do you mean? You’re coming with me if you like it or not," Scott said.
" There is no bloody way!" Rogue protested.
" Rogue it would be the ultimate revenge against Red there," Kitty said. " You guys aren’t exactly the best of friends."
" Are you two gonna keep on doing the tag team thing until I agree?" Rogue asked.
" YES!" Both shouted.
Rogue sighed, " Look, fine whatever. Don’t expect me to be your arm decorator and like it."
Chapter Two: " Wine and Dine."
Duncan, Jean and Scott were at the restaurant. The only one not talking was Scott, who looked pretty annoyed.
" What?" Duncan asked. " That Goth girlfriend of yours ditch you?"
" For the last time, she is not my girlfriend. And no, she hasn’t ditched us," Scott said impatiently.
Jean didn’t look like she believed him. Scott just turned his attention to the window.
" Sorry I’m late," A voice said. " Kitty decided to make me change clothes."
Scott looked over to see Rogue, who was looking quite pretty. Jean smiled.
" I thought you decided not to come," she said.
Rogue sat down and unrolled her silverware.
" If Scott’s gonna be in misery he should have company," Rogue said placing the cloth napkin on her lap.
Unlike the shiny dress Jean was wearing, Rogue wore a pretty purple velvet dress. It was fitted on the top and flowed out to a nice skirt. She also wore black opera length gloves and bare shoulders. And oddly for Rogue, her hair was pulled up into a twist held by black chopsticks.
" Now why would he be in misery?" Duncan asked.
Rogue raised an eyebrow, " Cause he’d have to watch you two love birds feed each other chocolate."
Scott took a sudden interest in his glass of water. The waiter came up and smiled at them.
" Have we decided what to eat?" He asked.
" I have the snow crab legs," Jean said. " With shrimp.."
" Lobster tail here," Scott said.
" T-bone stake for me," Duncan said. " Medium rare."
" I’ll take the same thing Scott’s having," Rogue said. " With the lemon shrimp. Make sure that’s jumbo shrimp."
The waiter nodded and walked quickly away. Scott exchanged a look with Rogue.
" So what do you do for a living Rogue?" Duncan asked.
" Well, I’m a tattoo artist assistant right now. By this time next year I’ll have my degree," Rogue said, smiling.
A waiter came by and re-filled Duncan’s glass of wine. Rogue shook her head. Jean looked at Scott weird, and Rogue knew that some kind of conversation was going on between them.
" What is up with you Scott?" Jean asked mentally.
" Don’t start rubbing that ring in my face Jean. So you are about to be engaged," Scott said back mentally.
" What ring?!" Jean mentally yelled.
" The one that’s in your glass Jean. Open you’re fuckin’ eyes," Scott growled mentally.
Jean picked up her wineglass and noticed an engagement ring on the bottom of it. Duncan smiled at her.
" So what do you think?" he asked.
Rogue watched as the waiter brought them the food.
" Uh," Jean said. " Can I think about this?"
" Oh yeah," Rogue thought. " You’re afraid I’m gonna steal your backup boyfriend aren’t you?"
Jean looked over at Rogue, like she heard Rogue’s thought.
" Take your time Red," Duncan said.
Rogue busied herself with eating her shrimp. The sooner she was done with her food, the sooner she could leave. She could feel that Scott was now in a foul mood. Not because of the proposal, Rogue knew that. Scott took out some money and tossed it onto the table.
" Leaving Scott?" Duncan asked.
" Yeah. Here’s our share of the bill," He said getting up..
Rogue felt him take her hand and she got up. They walked away, not saying another thing.
" Should I ask what’s going on?" Rogue asked quietly.
" Wait until we leave," Scott said.
Once outside Scott gritted his teeth. Rogue sighed and looked around.
" I’m starting to think she did this on purpose," Scott said walking again.
Rogue followed him, mainly since he hadn’t let go of her hand yet.
" Then why go?" Rogue asked. " Maybe this is what Duncan wants. To show Jean that her high school flame is a ill tempered man."
" What?" Scott asked looking at her.
" You’re quite aware that Duncan doesn’t like you Scott. You’re one of Jean’s Ex’s. Meaning, someone he’s gonna be compared with for the rest of his life," Rogue said. " And you just getting up and leaving is showing Jean that you are ill tempered. And to Duncan, that’s more fire to use against you."
" Oh? So now you think I’m ill tempered," Scott said. " Great. Join the club."
" Look, I’m not saying you’re ill tempered. It’s just they think you are. I have never thought you were that way," Rogue said.
Scott ran his hand through his hair and sighed.
" So," he said. " Where do you want to go?"
" The park’s nice at this time of night," Rogue said.
It was a quite drive to the park. Rogue kept her eyes on the road as Scott drove. It was an uncomfortable ride, but not painful one. Rogue guessed it was the usual nervousness she got. Scott tended to cause it.
" You’re pretty quiet all of a sudden," Scott said as he pulled into the parking lot.
Rogue got out of the car and breathed in the nice smell of the park.
" Trying to think of something not involved with Jean to talk about," Rogue said.
Scott shoved his hands into his pockets and walked along side Rogue.
" So you’ve always wanted to be a tattoo artist?" he asked.
" Not really. But being a doctor was out of the question," Rogue joked.
Scott smirked.
" I just wanted to after last year. I had to be Kurt’s witness when he got that tattoo of his done. You can say I fell in love with the whole idea then," Rogue said.
" Kurt has a tattoo?" Scott asked.
" A tiny little one. I think it’s a outline of a heart with a spade tail or something," Rogue said with a shrug.
" I have nothing against Duncan, you know that," Scott said sitting down on a park bench.
" It’s just that Jean hasn’t given one thought to how you feel about it right?" Rogue asked. " I think she tends to forget it’s her looks that only some people see. Not her brain power or gifts."
Scott nodded, " Maybe we just out-grew each other."
Rogue sat down and sighed, she had a bad feeling where this was heading.
" Don’t say anything now that you will regret later Scott," Rogue said.
" I’m choosing my words carefully Kate," Scott said.
" You haven’t called me that in years," Rogue said softly..
" Look it means a lot to me that you went and did this," he said.
" Misery loves company," Rogue said.
" I never asked you about what made your attitude change," Scott said.
" Just somethings that Kurt’s been talking though with me. I wasn’t always so brooding like when I got here," Rogue said. " But the matter of the fact is I can’t touch anybody ever."
" Maybe you just haven’t tried hard enough," he said.
Rogue raised an eyebrow at him.
" That’s like you trying to focus on not wearing those shades. Do you even remember what color your eyes are?" Rogue asked, being a little too snippy.
Scott looked out at the fountain for a moment.
" Sorry," Rogue said quietly. " I can always ask Xavier about it. He’s always helped me before."
Hours Later:
They had long since returned from the park. Rogue was waiting for sleep to take her over. Kitty was fast sleep, and snoring very lightly. Rogue was staring up at her ceiling. Mentally counting the tiny glowing stars on the ceiling. She got tired of waiting to sleep, so she got up and walked out into the hallway. She made it to the common room and found Scott sitting on the couch. The TV was on, but on that one static channel. Rogue sat down and Scott seemed just to wake up. He looked over at her.
" Couldn’t sleep," he said quietly, like he would wake the house up.
" Same here," Rogue said. " What’s on your mind?"
Scott exhaled, like what was on his mind was costly.
" I’ve just been thinking of all the things you’ve done for the team. Specifically Jean and I. It’s occurred to me that you did those things to make me happy," he said.
Rogue slumped down into her seat more. He knew.
" It’s just Jean was the one to make you happy. At least you could touch her and hold her at night," Rogue said, her voice cracking. " I honestly thought if I helped her it would make you happy. I didn’t dare think that Jean would make you the back up boyfriend to Duncan. She knows you so much better, and Duncan’s some ass hole meat head."
Rogue could tell Scott was thinking about this seriously, and Rogue felt like she was on the verge of a panic attack.
" I didn’t want her to do that to you, but now it seems it’s just that. She wants you to be there when Duncan brushes her off for a game or something," Rogue said with a wavering voice. " Please just say something Scott."
" I’ve noticed everything you’ve just told me Rogue," Scott said slowly, choosing his words. " I knew Jean would get tired of me. She wasn’t able to understand everything. How it feels to see everyone behind ruby lenses/quartz. It’s like being blind. I get no rest from it. She can simply turn her gift off, or tone it out. I can’t."
Rogue bit the inside of her lip hard.
" I enjoy being with you Rogue. You’ve somehow sorted through all the bull shit and found out the truth," he said.
Rogue closed her eyes and covered them with her hands. She was on the verge of a hysterical crying fit.
" You understand where I’m coming from. You always have," he said.
Rogue stared down at the floor now, shielding her eyes from his gaze. She didn’t want him to see the heavy fat tears that were starting to flow..
" Don’t start telling me that things are different now. I never wanted to be put in this situation with you Scott. When she was still in your life you wouldn’t of thought twice of me," she said. " It’s damn selfish that she didn’t consider what you thought of this whole thing. And thinking that you have some sort of affection for me is just a brain fart. You know it’s not true. Something deep inside of you wants love back in your life."
Rogue noticed Scott’s gaze went to the doorway. She looked up to see Jean.
" Is that what you truly think?" Jean asked raising an eyebrow.
Rogue swallowed and got up, letting her hands drop from her face.
" What else is there to think?! You gave him no warning, nothing! Then you go prancing your new catch around him. Like he wouldn’t feel like the lesser man! Jean you can’t pry on him like this! Scott loved you and you tore out his whole being!" Rogue stated. " Well I do care Jean! Scott’s the first who gave two shits about me. I’m sorry if I sound bitchy but that’s what I think. Stop dragging him around."
Jean sighed and looked at both Scott and Rogue for a moment. Rogue didn’t say another word, then left. Scott looked out the window, avoiding the way Jean was walking towards him.
" I didn’t know that’s how she felt about this whole thing," Jean said.
" That’s how I feel about it Jean. If you were getting tired of me you could have told me," Scott said.
" Ditto for you," Jean muttered.
" What did you come here originally for?" Scott asked.
Jean took out an envelope from her pocket.
" My Father sent me some tickets to a nice resort," She said handing the thing to Scott. " I thought that perhaps you and Rogue could go in my place. There’s two tickets, and the directions are in it. I just have to correct the names with the resort."
Scott took out the tickets and glanced at them.
" Well, I wanted a excuse to visit Alex," Scott said.
" Just please enjoy yourself Scott. And for you this time," Jean said.
A Few Days Later:
Rogue sat on a cot in the Med lab. She was playing with one of her gloves as Professor X was talking.
" You are aware this is only a prototype," he said. " It may not last for long without more batteries."
Rogue watched Hank McCoy put a silver bracelet on her right wrist. There were tiny blinking lights on it.
" So how does it work?" Kurt asked as he sat down next to Rogue.
" It should already work," Hank said. " Give it a try."
Rogue cautiously reached over and touched Kurt on the nose. Kurt sneezed. Rogue recoiled, thinking she took something from him.
" You okay?" Rogue asked.
" Yeah. Your lotion makes me sneeze!" Kurt exclaimed rubbing his nose.
Rogue looked panicked for a moment, then touched Kurt’s bare arm. He looked at her arm like she was crazy. Nothing happened.
" Oh my god!" Rogue exclaimed. " I didn’t take his powers!"
" How long have you had this thing around?" another voice asked.
Rogue looked up to see Jean walk in with Scott. Rogue looked away.
" Long enough. I didn’t want to push it onto you unless you were ready for it," Xavier said.
Rogue got off the cot and took off her other glove.
" Thank you Prof," She said as she passed. " This means a whole lot to me."
Rogue avoided making eye contact with either Scott or Jean. She could feel Scott following her down the hallway. She turned to look at him.
" You’ve been avoiding me these last few days," he said.
Rogue rubbed the back of her neck for a moment.
" I’ve been busy with Kitty and everything," Rogue said. " That and I thought you and Jean reached a understanding and didn’t need me to make it any worse."
" Look, I have this chance to go over to Hawaii. And I thought you’d want to go," Scott said.
Rogue sighed and closed her eyes.
" Look, you don’t have to go," Scott said.
Rogue bit her bottom lip and looked at him.
" When do we leave?" She asked smirking.
" You got the whole night to pack. So do it wisely," Scott said, hiding his smile badly.
Rogue stood at attention and gave a salute. Then she promptly ran off to get started. Scott put his hands into his pockets and walked past the bewildered Evan.
" Okay, I definitely need to get out more," he said walking back into his room.
Kitty had managed to catch Rogue packing.
" Hey, want to borrow something from me?" Kitty asked sitting down on Rogue’s bed.
" You’re smaller then me," Rogue said digging in her closet.
" Maybe Jean would own ya something," Kitty said.
" Nah," Rogue said. " I do have normal clothes in here somewhere."
Kitty watched the flood of clothes Rogue was tossing out of her closet. There was some clothing Kitty couldn’t see Rogue wearing. Rogue stopped the digging and Kitty started to fold the clothing neatly.
" You got a swim suit?" Kitty asked.
" I think so," Rogue said.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door and Rogue looked up. There was Jean with a shopping bag.
" Hey," Rogue said. " I’m sorry for how I told you off the other night."
" Don’t worry about it," Jean said. " I have a gift for you."
Jean gave Rogue the bag and she peered inside. There was a black bikini down inside with a dress that Rogue couldn’t make out the color of.
" Why?" Rogue asked.
" Cause I know that you don’t have a bikini," Jean said winking. " And Hawaii is perfect for them."
" Thanks," Rogue said taking out the suit and dress.
" Just remember not to let Scott get sunburn. He looks horrible as a lobster," Jean said walking out.
Rogue discovered that Kitty had everything all neatly folded in the large suitcase.
" You got sandals right?" Kitty asked.
" Yeah," Rogue said tossing a pair in the suitcase. " And sun block."
Kitty went over to her nightstand and walked over with something. Rogue raised an eyebrow as Kitty put the something into Rogue’s makeup case.
" Don’t ask," Kitty said. " Cause you already know what it is."
Rogue rolled her eyes, " Spare me."
Logan was the one to drop them off at the airport. The whole way Rogue and Scott were quiet. Which was usual around Logan. They did the song and dance they made you do at airports. Ya know, baggage checking and the metal detectors. Once on the plane everything seemed easier. Scott buckled up as Rogue looked at a magazine.
" This is far different then the black bird," Scott said low.
Rogue gave a soft smile, " True. But to the rest of the people on here aren’t like us."
They spent most of the flight making cute games, like ‘Guess the Quote’ and everything. (Guess the Quote is a game where you say a quote and the other person has to say who said it originally. Works with song lyrics too! ) They had forgotten about Rogue’s new freedom at the current moment.
Alex met up with them. His tan was darker and he hugged Scott tightly..
" Hey Rogue right?" Alex asked.
" That’s me," She said. " You’re our tour guide aren’t you?"
" Not me. Just wanted to come visit. How long you guys here?" Alex asked.
" Three weeks," Scott said.
" Cool," Alex said. " Let’s go surfing after you guys get settled in."
They smiled and walked down to the resort, which everything seemed to get more tense. They weren’t in different rooms at all. They were in one single room with a menacing big bed. They sighed in unison at this. The Bellhop paid no attention as he went on about the room service and the after hours noise policy. After they tipped him they shoved him out.
" Have any ideas?" Scott asked.
Rogue sat down on the bed. " Look, it’s not like anything’s gonna happen," she said. " We’re friends."
Both parties were hoping this statement would prevent anything from happening.
The Next Morning:
Scott groaned as reached for his glasses. He felt Rogue put them on his face.
" You snore like a chain saw," She snickered.
He sat up and ruffled his hair, knowing he had severe bed head.
" Where did you sleep?" He asked.
Rogue pointed to the overstuffed couch that was nearby.
" It’s pretty uncomfortable, but I felt safer sleeping there," she said. " Now remember, we’re surfing with Alex today."
Rogue took up his spot on the bed after he got up and started to fish around in his suitcase. He turned to look at her and she smirked.
" You didn’t get any sleep did you?" he asked.
" Not really," She said.
Scott found his trunks and sat down on the bed.
" How about I go surfing and you get some sleep?" he asked.
Rogue was busy making herself comfortable, she mumbled a reply.
" When you’ve slept enough you can meet us out on the beach," Scott said.
" Aren’t you the sweet one," Rogue giggled.
" Get to sleep," he said before walking into the bathroom.
Rogue smiled softly and buried her head in the pillow. It was still warm and smelling like Scott.
" I wonder what cologne he wears," Rogue thought before she drifted off to sleep.
She woke up what felt like a day later, but was truly only two hours. She could hear Scott and Alex talking out on the balcony. Rouge pretended to still be asleep.
" So what’s going on with you and Jean?" Alex asked.
" Jean’s found someone better I guess," Scott said.
" Man that’s cold. Did she even give you a reason?" he asked.
" No she didn’t. I was left with filling out the blanks," Scott said nearly growling.
Rogue knew by his tone that Scott was still pretty touchy about that.
" Now, you should know something. Rogue seemed to complete you more," Alex said.
" Complete me more? In what way?" Scott asked.
" You guys are more alike. Have the same workings. She’s just as brooding as you can be sometimes. Remember, you’ve told me a lot about her," Alex said.
Rogue felt her cheeks get hot.
" She ‘completes’ me in a lot of ways. I guess it’s only now that I worry about it. What if it’s just me putting emotion onto someone else?" Scott asked.
" You know what I think bro?" Alex asked. " Just go with it. You never know when this thing will fade off. And that’s if it even fades."
Rogue knew she shouldn’t be hearing any of this. She faked a yawn and made her way towards the balcony.
" Hey guys," she asked sitting down. " How was the surfing?"
" Scott wiped out big time!" Alex laughed.
Rogue smirked, " Just how bad?"
" If the surfboard was food," Scott said. " I would be the size of the Blob by now."
The three burst out in laughter for a few moments. Scott thought Rogue looked beautiful when she laughed.
" Hey I’ll catch up with you guys later," Alex said getting up.
" Thanks for stopping by," Rogue said.
Alex leaned down and hugged her warmly. Rogue snickered and returned the hug. Alex gave his brother a high five and soon left afterwards. Rogue sighed and looked out at the sunset, which looked amazing.
" Sleep any better?" Scott asked.
Rogue nodded slowly, enjoying the sunset.
" Yeah," She said.
" Look, we both know nothing’s gonna happen if you sleep in the bed tonight," Scott said.
" I know," Rogue said. " I tried to sleep there last night, but it just didn’t feel right."
Rogue closed her eyes and started to finger comb her hair. She could tell that Scott had gotten up and she dropped her hands to her lap. Scott then started to play with her hair. She sighed.
" I overheard your conversation with Alex," She said quietly.
Scott stopped only for a brief moment. She looked up at him. She could almost see the sad expression in his eyes. Scott leaned down slightly as Rogue put a hand on his cheek. His face felt hot, and she could feel his pulse.
" How much did you hear?" He asked.
Rogue sat up on her knees in the chair. She then turned around so she could look him in the face.
" Just about everything I think," she said.
A few inches closer this time, Rogue could feel the heat from his breath.
" Since everything is now out in the open," he muttered.
Rogue closed her eyes, waiting for the rush of memories to come flooding with the contact. But instead, she felt sparks. It was a flood of emotions she’d be denied for a long time. It all made her weak in the knees and made her want more.
They spent nearly the rest of the day talking, nothing more serious had happened. The whole thing happening made them tired, and they were asleep even before their heads hit the pillow.
Scott was just starting to wake up. Rogue hadn’t moved the whole night. She still was close enough for him to hear her breathing softly. He reached over for his glasses and put them on. He still was craving more sleep. Or just didn’t want to get up. Holding Rogue while she slept was different then holding Jean. Rogue made his pulse quicken with just a smirk, or just a look.
" Murrin’," Rogue mumbled.
Scott chuckled, " Morning to you too."
" I wanna go back to sleep," Rogue whined.
" I know the feeling," Scott said.
He ruffled her hair and she sweeked. He felt almost high lying there, or he was just starting to warm up.
" I saw some flyers for a street fair yesterday. You interested?" Scott asked.
" Of course! I love street fairs," Rogue said.
She was the first one to get out of bed first. Scott laughed when he realized they were still wearing the clothes from the day before. Well, Rogue was still in her pjs. Scott got out of bed and fished around in his dresser.
" You can go first," Rogue said yawning.
" Thanks," He said.
Rogue lay back down on the bed and watched the clouds outside. The breeze played with the curtains gently.
She closed her eyes to enjoy the breeze more. She heard the bathroom door open and she smiled softly. Why could just one little event change her complete outlook on Scott? She turned her head to see Scott sit down on the bed. She reached over and messed up his wet hair.
" Your turn," he said.
Rogue grabbed some clothes from her dresser and made her way to the bathroom.
" Now don’t fall asleep. Don’t make me wake you up," Rogue said.
She could hear Scott chuckle as she closed the door.
The street fair was full of people. The two laughed and looked at stands. They stopped at one stand that got their attention.
" Lady Emerald can see the future!" a dark skinned woman exclaimed.
Scott and Rogue shrugged, then stepped in.
" I’m not much for Fortune tellers," Scott said.
Rogue sat down and Lady Emerald looked up at her. Lady E was an old woman with glittering eyes and laugh lines. She had long silver hair covered with a simple bandanna.
" You have come with one question," Lady Emerald said shuffling her deck of Tarot cards.
" Well, I got plenty of questions ma’am," Rogue said.
Scott put his hands into his pockets, Lady Emerald offered him a seat..
" I don’t do couple readings all the time," she said still shuffling her cards. " But I can you both are different. Both have gifts that set you apart. But it also helps your both cling to each other."
Rogue interlaced her hand with Scott’s underneath the table. Scott could feel Rogue’s hands were sweaty. Lady Emerald slowly put the cards onto the table, carefully studying them.
" There is someone you both know now, who feels threatened by the turn of events. She fears of being replaced. But she also feels guilty for how far she has gone. How she has treated you," Lady Emerald said watching her cards. " But she doesn’t know of the power of this wonderful thing. She and the others do not know what lurks inside."
Rogue raised an eyebrow and glanced at the cards, Suddenly a voice came into her head.
" There is another question on your minds," the voice said.
Scott looked shocked, like he too heard the voice.
" Lady Emerald?" Rogue asked.
" You will love each other for a long time. As long as time allows," Lady Emerald said.
Just as quickly as the voice came in it was gone. Rogue blinked, watching the fortune teller.
" How much do we owe you?" Scott asked.
" Nothing my dear boy," the woman said waving a hand. " to see others like me is payment enough."
They got up and shook the woman’s hand. Feeling that more questions instead of answers came up.
" Now that was weird," Scott said.
" Yeah," Rogue said.
Scott pulled her into an alley way and she looked at him funny.
" What are you smiling about?" She asked.
He leaned down and kissed her. One kiss turned into more. They didn’t even notice the red cloud appear next to them.
" HI!" The blue elf chimed.
" Gah!" Rogue said jumping.
" How the hell did you get here?" Scott asked fixing his collar.
" Long story," Kurt said turning on his inducer. " Has something to do with Kitty and her missing Rogue."
Rogue laughed, " You bit me you crazy person."
Kurt smirked, " Come on, Kitty’s waiting to see you guys."
" Does anyone know about this?" Scott asked.
" The Professor does," Kurt said. " He just smiled and told us that we should prepare for a shock when we get here."
Rogue could tell Scott rolled his eyes. Or at least she could imagine him doing that.
" Where are you guys staying?" Scott asked.
" I think our room is like two down from yours," Kurt said.
When they found Kitty, she smiled and hugged Rogue tightly.
" Let’s go out and do something crazy," Kitty said still hugging Rogue.
" Like what?" Scott asked.
" I have a plan! Follow me!" Kurt exclaimed running through the crowd.
